amsterdam, we’ve arrived (probably)

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Well we haven’t quite arrived yet.  It’s 11.45 pm and we’re ready to get going, but our flight doesn’t leave until tomorrow at 3pm.  We fly to phoenix, then to london, then to amsterdam.  We’re going to be in the air a while…

The good news is we’re finally done moving, and although my pack is about 45 pounds and needs to be rearranged, for the most part, we’re ready to roll. We’re both pretty excited to go, and ready for the trip to begin.

Just an update, for those of you who didn’t know, I injured my knees moving, go figure.  So I’ve been doing a lot of icing (not the cake kind) and trying to take it easy, but that’s hard to do when you’re getting ready for a 60+ day trip and also trying to finish moving.  My knees both feel a lot better, but my left one is not 100% yet, so I’m trying to be careful and let it heal and not agitate it more.

Anyhoo, since I may not have internet when we arrive in amsterdam, I’m posting this now.  I’ll try to write again if we have internet access, and of course, once I can, I’ll post a bunch of pictures.

We’re staying with a couple who we met on couchsurfing.com, a website we’ve never used before but a great way to find a free place to stay when traveling.

Anyway, more on that later.  Let the trip begin!

Europa 2008! Our rough itinerary….

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Well, as many of you know, the trip is about to begin.  Although I had always wanted to go back since my last backpacking trip in 2000, that “someday” may never have come if Ruth hadn’t decided to go this summer with or without me :D

So we leave in about 2 weeks now, on July 1st we fly out for Amsterdam where we’ll stay for 2-3 days, then it’s off to Copenhagen Denmark.

Below is a full map of our rough itinerary.  We’ve got a lot -probably too many- countries we want to visit so some of these places will get the big axe.  For the places we do go though,  we’ll be posting blogs and pictures here.

I’m excited to leave, and I’m excited for the adventure we have in store.  I’m excited to meet the new people, eat the new foods, smell the new smells, and see what I haven’t yet….
